| The Buffalo Sabres owe Craig Anderson a massive debt after what he did this past season. In a year where goaltending was one of their weakest assets, the 42-year-old goaltender was an absolute rock for them in more ways than one. Playing in the NHL at over 40 years old is difficult enough, but doing it as a goaltender, as well as putting up some fantastic numbers, is nothing short of incredible. Eric Comrie was presumed to take the bulk of the starts but ended up injured, and then Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen was called up to take the crease. |

| Sabres sign defense prospect Vsevolod Komarov to entry-level contract |
| Vsevolod Komarov's season with the Quebec Remparts convinced the Buffalo Sabres that he should be part of their long-term plans. The club announced Thursday that it signed Komarov to a three-year, entry-level contract. Komarov, 19, is a 6-foot-3, right-shot defenseman whom the Sabres selected in the fifth round last July. |

| Sabres agree to one-year deal with captain Okposo |
| The Sabres captain is coming back. After Buffalo was edged out of playoff contention this season, uncertainty developed regarding the future of veteran Kyle Okposo, who had spent seven seasons with the team, including this past campaign, during which he helped the Sabres gain steam as a young, up-and-coming squad that barely missed out on a playoff spot. While some believed Okposo, 35, may retire, others thought he might opt for free agency. “To be honest with you, I realized pretty quickly after the season,” recalled Okposo regarding his decision to pursue an extended future with the Sabres. |

| US beats Hungary, Canada tops Slovenia at ice hockey worlds |
| The United States had to come from a goal down to outclass newcomer Hungary 7-1 for its second win at the ice hockey world championship on Sunday. Canada had to do the same on the way to a 5-2 victory over Slovenia, the other newly promoted team in the top division. Nick Bonino scored two goals for the Americans and Rocco Grimaldi had a goal and two assists in their Group A game at Nokia Arena in Tampere. |
