Former St. Thomas Academy and Gophers forward Tommy Novak is coming off a career year with the Nashville Predators. Back home for a bit before heading back to Nashville for training, our Darren 'Doogie' Wolfson caught up with Novak and Ted Johnson, his Twin Cities-based trainer. Preds Top 20, No. 10: Juuse Saros Sets Franchise Saves Record
On Jan. 5 at PNC Arena, Juuse Saros didn't just break the Predators franchise record for saves in a single game - he shattered it. Saros made a whopping 64 saves in Nashville's 5-3 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes, toppling the previous record of 54 set by Dan Ellis on Nov. 11, 2008. Saros' historic performance is tied for the third-most saves in a regular-season game in NHL history and the second-most in a regulation regular-season contest.

Meet Vickie Woosley: Team Psychologist for the Nashville Predators
Whether it's by way of a casual chat or a closed-door conversation, Woosley personally ensures that the men in Gold and Navy are mentally prepared for the stresses of an intensely high-pressure and high-performance job. In her final years with the Bureau, Woosley worked in a unit conducting psychological evaluations - or, "a check up from the neck up" - on agents working in covert operations. "I think that it taught me a lot about team building, taught me a lot about high performance and performing under pressure, which of course is a primary goal of these guys," Woosley said. Like the Bureau, Woosley never aspired to work for a hockey team, much less an NHL club.

Preds Top 20, No. 12: Roman Josi Becomes Preds All-Time Scoring Leader
Roman Josi was already a four-time NHL All-Star, the Predators career assists leader and the franchise's first-ever Norris Trophy winner. In the opening minutes of the third period, Josi shelved a backhander past Blackhawks goaltender Petr Mrázek for his 566th career point - tying forward David Legwand's all-time points record.

Could the Predators make a trade for Toronto's William Nylander?
If the Toronto Maple Leafs are looking to shake things up following another early playoff exit, the Nashville Predators could be a fitting trade partner. Toronto lost to the Florida Panthers in the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and questions have been raised about splitting up the core after narrowly avoiding being swept and dropping the series in five games. While Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, and John Tavares might be off the table (and too expensive to move for fair value), William Nylander is a a very tantalizing option, according to Ann Kimmel of Locked on Predators.

Tolvanen, Kartye providing lift for Kraken ahead of Game 7 against Stars
A big reason is that they've kept improving the roster, and they've done that by continuing to find players who were undervalued elsewhere, the way they did in the 2021 NHL Expansion Draft. Three new additions made big impacts Saturday, when the Kraken staved off elimination with a 6-3 win against the Dallas Stars in Game 6 of the best-of-7 Western Conference Second Round at Climate Pledge Arena. Game 7 is at American Airlines Center in Dallas on Monday (8 p.m. ET; ESPN, SN, TVAS). Eeli Tolvanen had three points (one goal, two assists), rookie Matty Beniers had two points (one goal, one assist) and rookie Tye Kartye had a goal.

Why Barry Trotz won't commit to John Hynes as Preds head coach
Barry Trotz doesn't take over as the general manager of the Nashville Predators until July 1. Speaking on 102.5 The Game's "Robby and Rexrode" on May 10, Trotz remained non-committal to current head coach John Hynes. Trotz remains in evaluation mode, and believes they did a good job with what they had at their disposal last season. What Trotz didn't say, though, is Hynes will be back.

Thursday's Daily Links: Gotta score five?
David Poile bringing up the possibility of keeping him around in a non-roster capacity is an interesting one I think more NHL teams should explore with more players--not sticking everyone into management or reporting positions, when not every player wants to do one of those, but just broadening the concept of team support personnel in general. Andrei Vasilevskiy said his body began to give out on him midway through the season and the Tampa Bay Lightning goalie he will be making some adjustments to his offseason training to allow time for recovery.
